Cellular automata and ternary representation

Master's degree and a paper at IEEE CEC 2011 in New Orleans: ternary representation improves the search for density classifier cellular automata.

About

My master’s, in the artificial intelligence and evolutionary systems line, covered genetic algorithms, natural computing and cellular automata, implemented in CUDA.

The main result was the paper Ternary representation improves the search for binary, one-dimensional density classifier cellular automata, presented at the 2011 IEEE Congress on Evolutionary Computation (CEC) in New Orleans.

Why it matters to me

This is the subject that took me back to university after years of working, and it’s what I still study on my own — the reference implementations live in genetic algorithms in C and CUDA.
